For Kathleen A. (Cemensky) Allen, her time spent at Winona State College was for learning and growing.

Allen came from a farm near Montgomery, Minn., and got involved with many of the early athletic programs at Winona State. Allen says she was fortunate to be a member of the volleyball, basketball and softball teams. Clearly those programs were fortunate to have her as a member. Allen’s softball team won the conference tournament in 1973, while she went on to be named Most Improved Player in volleyball for 1971 and Most Valuable in 1973.

The learning and growing of Allen gained ground with her work in the Women’s Intercollegiate-Intramural Program at Winona State. She served as student director in 1971-1972 and as chairperson of various programs for WIIP in 1970-71.

After earning her degree and completing her eligibility, Allen moved on to Baraboo, Wis., where where she taught and coached at the Baraboo Middle School for 32 years. Allen’s involvement at the Baraboo Middle School also included swerving as athletic director. She sat on the Wisconsin Athletic Directors Association board and served as the middle level liaison for the Wisconsin Interscholastic Atheletic Association.

Recently, her years of dedication to the Baraboo Middle School led to her selection as the Secondary Teacher of the Year.
Allen’s achievements extended outside of the Baraboo Middle School. She received the 1987 Jaycees Outstanding Young Wisconsinite Award. From 1980-1985 she was the Baraboo Women in Athletics treasurer and helped the organization raise $20,000 to support high school girl’s athletics.

Allen continues to be involved in many church and civic organization but enjoys touring the countryside on scooters with her husband, Jim, the most.

Inducted into the WSU Athletic Hall of Fame October 1, 2005
