The 1987 Winona State gymnastics team capped a three year run of dominance for the Warriors with the second national championship in program history. The team's total of 139.30 at the championship meet gave the team a victory over second-place Centenary. It was the second NAIA title in three years for the Warriors, joining the 1985 team as national champions. Katie Dempsey won an individual title on the floor, her second consecutive national title in the event. Dempsey (vault, all-around), Raquel Yurch-Guckeen (balance beam), Chris Pekelsma-Hanchin (bars), Gina Vitale-Born (balance beam, all-around) also brought home All-American honors from the national championship. Head coach Greg Juaire was named the nation’s Coach of the Year after guiding the Warriors to the national title.
