The 1985 edition of the Winona State gymnastics team was one for the ages. The Warriors posted a 25-3 overall mark that season and advanced to the NAIA national tournament with a chance for a national title. At the meet they surprised favored Centenary College (LA) to finish the season as National Champions.

WSU gymnasts claimed three individual championships, two second place finishes and two more thirds. Four Warrior gymnasts set seven all-time school records. For their efforts the Warriors advanced to the NCAA Championships, placing third in that meet. Tracy Harvey placed fourth in the All-Around at that meet, becoming the first Warrior to earn NCAA All-American honors.

Jean Schuler was named NAIA Gymnast of the Year, an accomplishment she repeated the following season. She also claimed the first of back-to-back NAIA All-Around titles. Kathleen Horyza, Katie Dempsey, Tracy Harvey and Silvia Ponce all earned All-American distinction for one of the greatest teams – regardless of sport – in Winona State history.
